BCSC Set To Takeover B.A.S.E. After School Program Beginning In July 2024

Article Source: Brownsburg.org
Starting July 31, 2024, for the academic year 2024-2025, the Brownsburg Community School Corporation is set to assume control of the B.A.S.E. program, which was previously operated by the Town of Brownsburg Parks Department. This before and after school initiative is open to all children attending elementary schools in the area.
According to the article on Brownsburg.org - Due to its overwhelming growth and success, the program has surpassed the administrative abilities of the Parks Department. To facilitate a seamless and effective transition, both the Town of Brownsburg and the Brownsburg Community School Corporation are collaborating closely, prioritizing the needs of the current B.A.S.E. staff and the families they serve.
The Town Council President of Brownsburg, Travis Tschaenn was quoted in the article as expresseing that while they have been proud to serve local families and assist the educational system, the program has expanded beyond their operational and resource capabilities. He further commented on the excellent reputation of the Brownsburg School system in the state, and how this move will allow for the program's extension, thereby offering more resources and opportunities for the dedicated staff and the community.

Under the Brownsburg Community School Corporation, the program will undergo a rebranding, changing its name to BOOST, an acronym for Bulldogs Out of School Time. This change aims to integrate as many members of the existing B.A.S.E. staff into the new framework as feasible.

Assistant Superintendent Kat Jessup of the Brownsburg Schools expressed gratitude towards the diligent B.A.S.E. staff for their service in caring for students outside regular school hours. With the introduction of BOOST in the 2024-2025 school year, there's an anticipation that many of these staff members will continue their roles, thus maintaining the service for families through the Brownsburg Schools.
The Parks Department will oversee the program until the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year and will still offer its summer camp. Further information regarding the transition process will be provided by the Brownsburg Community School Corporation in the upcoming months..
Hendricks County Sheriff’s Office Seeks Public Aid In Arson Case At Linden Square Apartments

The Sheriff's Department of Hendricks County, Indiana, has issued a call to the public seeking assistance in identifying two suspects linked to an alleged arson event. This event took place at the Linden Square Apartments on January 6th, which was later verified as an intentional case of arson through investigation.
Distribution of Images in Public Request To aid in the quick identification of the alleged perpetrators, the Sheriff’s Department has disseminated surveillance photos of the pair. These photos were posted on the department's online social networks, broadening the reach and enhancing the likelihood of recognizing the suspects.
Call for Public to Contribute Information The Sheriff’s Department has made available various ways for citizens to submit any tips or knowledge they have about the suspects. Detective Donaldson, who is in charge of the case, is available at 317-745-4043. Additionally, the community can provide information confidentially through Crime Stoppers, either by dialing 317-262-TIPS (8477) or 800-922-TIPS (8477), or by visiting their website.
Information Reference for Community Support To simplify the process of information submission, the Sheriff’s Department has assigned a specific case number, HP24-0172. This designation ensures that all tips received are correctly linked to the ongoing arson probe at Linden Square Apartments. The Sheriff’s office has already expressed appreciation for any help the community can provide in this investigation.
Navigating Tax Season: Extra Deductions For Seniors Over 65

Last year, senior citizens experienced a degree of relief from inflation thanks to the most significant Social Security cost-of-living increase in four decades. However, with tax obligations on the horizon, it's crucial for these individuals to explore strategies for diminishing their taxable income. A viable option is opting for an additional standard deduction.
The standard deduction, a predetermined dollar amount set by the IRS, effectively reduces taxable income without the need for itemized deductions such as mortgage interest and charitable contributions. Importantly, there's an augmented deduction available specifically for those aged 65 and above at the close of the tax year, offering a more substantial reduction in taxable income and consequently a reduced tax bill.
Eligibility for this augmented standard deduction is reserved for taxpayers aged 65 and older. The size of this additional deduction depends on several factors: the taxpayer's filing status, whether they or their spouse are at least 65, and whether either is visually impaired. According to the IRS, for the 2023 tax year, individuals born before January 2, 1959, are considered 65. An even larger deduction is claimable for those who, or whose spouses, are visually impaired by the end of the year. Additional requirements include not being claimed as a dependent and not itemizing taxes.
For visually impaired individuals under 65, a different additional standard deduction applies. The amounts for the 2023 tax year for those 65 and older or blind are as follows: $1,850 for singles or heads of household, and $1,500 for married taxpayers or qualifying surviving spouses. For those both 65 or older and blind, these amounts increase to $3,700 for singles or heads of household and $3,000 per qualifying individual for married couples filing jointly or separately. These figures are in addition to the regular standard deductions, which are $13,850 for singles or those married filing separately, $20,800 for heads of household, and $27,700 for married couples filing jointly or qualifying surviving spouses.
The decision to itemize deductions or opt for the standard deduction is a personal one. IRS data from the 2020 tax year indicates that nearly 90% of Americans choose the standard deduction. Whether itemizing is more advantageous depends on whether the sum of itemized deductions exceeds the standard deduction, or in cases where itemizing is mandatory because the standard deduction is not applicable. Factors that might suggest a benefit from itemizing, without extensive calculations, include major life events such as home buying or selling, substantial medical expenses, or significant charitable donations.
