BYS Spearheads Major Youth Sports Complex Development In Brownsburg

Brownsburg Youth Sports, LLC (BYS) is a volunteer-run, nonprofit organization responsible for fundraising for Brownsburg Little League Baseball (BLLB) and Brownsburg Girls Softball League (BGSL). They aim to promote teamwork, sportsmanship, and high-quality sports instruction.

Their main project, "Play Ball, Brownsburg!," focuses on raising funds to buy over 100 acres of land for a new youth sports complex. This complex will feature baseball and softball fields, concessions buildings, and other facilities.

The first phase includes developing 60 acres for baseball and softball, with plans to expand to other sports on the remaining 42 acres, ultimately creating a major venue for various events.

Former Major League Baseball player Drew Storen, an alum of BLLB and Brownsburg High School, supports the project, recalling his positive experiences playing Little League Baseball in Brownsburg.

Lt. Governor Calls for Pause on Medicaid Cuts Affecting Parents of Children with Complex Medical Needs

Indiana's Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch and three lawmakers urged the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) to halt proposed cuts to a program that compensates parents for caring for their medically complex children. These cuts were a response to a $1 billion Medicaid shortfall.

The decision affects payments to parents who were allowed during the COVID-19 pandemic to be paid for care typically provided by nurses, a field currently facing a labor shortage. Despite the FSSA's explanation, stakeholders and families expressed dissatisfaction, questioning the lack of detailed data and the impact on affected families.

The growth in the attendant care program, partly causing the Medicaid shortfall, was also discussed. There are concerns about the FSSA's new direction, which focuses on structured family caregiving rather than attendant care, and the effect this will have on families, especially given the shortage of professional nursing staff. Families have been protesting at the Statehouse, with some considering drastic measures to cope with the new restrictions.
