Try Birdwatching: Join the 27th Annual Bird Count in Brownsburg

The Town of Brownsburg is participating in the 27th Great Backyard Bird Count on February 17, 9-11 a.m. at Williams Park.

This event aids bird conservation by tallying bird species, with findings reported to the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Open to all skill levels, participants will learn about birds and their ecosystem on the Maple Ridge Trail. The event emphasizes nature connection and mindfulness.

Attendance is free, but registration is required. Participants should dress suitably and bring binoculars.

Indiana's Push for More Accessible Child Care: Senate Passes Key Bill

The Indiana Senate has passed a bill aiming to improve child care accessibility in the state.

Authored by State Sen. Ed Charbonneau, the bill proposes to increase the income threshold for state childcare business funding from $45,000 to $67,000, lower the age requirement for licensed childcare providers from 21 to 18 (and in some cases to 16), and address the shortage of childcare workers.

This move is seen as a response to the childcare crisis in Indiana, including in areas with severe lack of childcare services, termed "child care deserts." The bill has received strong bipartisan support and is now proceeding to the Indiana House for further consideration

(You’ve Got To Be Kidding Me) New Bill in Indiana Aims to Protect Children's Lemonade Stands

The Indiana House Commerce Committee approved a bill to legalize lemonade stands, which are currently illegal under state code. 😮😮😮

The bill, proposed by Representative Blake Johnson, aims to prevent local authorities from stopping or regulating these stands. It includes conditions like limiting operation to two consecutive days and a total of eight days a month. This move is seen as a way to encourage entrepreneurial skills in children.

A similar bill was passed by the House two years ago but did not progress in the Senate. The current bill passed the committee unanimously and is now proceeding to the full House.
