Indiana Attorney General Launches “Eyes On Education” Investigation Portal

(Excerpt From Website Home Page)

“After our office consistently heard from student, parents, and teachers about objectionable curricula, policies, or programs affecting children, we launched the Eyes on Education portal.

Our kids need to focus on fundamental educational building blocks, not political ideology - either left or right.”

Attorney General Rokita introduced a new initiative called Eyes on Education, aimed at enhancing parental involvement in their children's schooling by offering a platform for reporting and accessing content deemed unsuitable within educational settings. This move comes in response to concerns raised by students, parents, and educators throughout Indiana about harmful educational content and practices. Rokita emphasized the need for education to return to basic learning principles rather than focusing on divisive ideologies, accusing the media and educational institutions of denying the existence of such indoctrination in the state.

The platform showcases various incidents reported by users, including a gender support policy at Clark-Pleasant Community School Corp. that restricts faculty from disclosing students' gender identities, the display of a pride flag with a Black Lives Matter emblem in a Kokomo classroom, a survey on political beliefs from Carmel Clay, instructions at Martinsville High School on becoming emotionally independent from parents, and specific race and gender-focused events and scholarships at Penn Harris Madison School Corporation.

The Attorney General's office promises to investigate submissions that may breach state laws, using tools like public records requests, and to share the outcomes on the platform. The initiative also covers higher education institutions and seeks to support not only parents but also educators who feel their efforts are being undermined by administrative policies.

Since taking office, Rokita has advocated for parental rights, including issuing a Parents’ Bill of Rights and opposing federal investigations into parents who are outspoken at school board meetings. The Eyes on Education portal is a continuation of these efforts, designed to empower both parents and teachers by providing a space for them to voice concerns over educational materials they find objectionable. The portal is accessible through the attorney general's website, where individuals can submit documents and feedback on educational content from schools across Indiana.

New Legislation Introduces Literacy Coaches and Math Intervention Programs

The legislation, unanimously approved by the House, aims to enhance students' math and reading skills through the creation of literacy coach and math intervention programs.

The bill, introduced by Rep. Jake Teshka, builds on prior legislation requiring teacher training in the Science of Reading curriculum. Literacy coaches will support teachers, especially in grades K-3, to improve reading instruction, while the math intervention program targets students in grades K-8 struggling with math.

The bill seeks to prevent student retention by ensuring high-quality classroom instruction. It also responds to concerns about American students' math proficiency lagging behind their peers in China. Rep. Vernon Smith praised the bill's approach but hoped for the inclusion of a reading intervention program similar to the math intervention. The legislation now moves to the Senate for consideration, following a deadline for House bills.

Did You Know?… The Essential Function of Lift Stations in Brownsburg's Wastewater Management

Brownsburg has 35 lift stations equipped with necessary components to manage wastewater flow.

These stations are used when gravity-based sewer systems are impractical due to depth constraints, employing pumps to elevate wastewater for continued gravity flow.

Maintenance includes monthly inspections, with older stations checked weekly. Two types of lift stations exist, mainly differing by pump location.

Alarms, both audible and visual, indicate malfunctions, and residents are advised against intervening, instead urged to contact police dispatch for any issues or suspicious activities near these stations. This ensures wastewater is efficiently directed away from homes and streets, maintaining community hygiene and safety.

See Town of Brownsburg for more info. on Lift Stations.
