Rundown of the Brownsburg Redevelopment Meeting - Tues. Jan. 6, 2024

The Brownsburg Redevelopment Commission held a meeting on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, which was both live-streamed and archived for public viewing. The meeting was officially commenced at 5:31 PM by Commission Member Al Salzman, following the confirmation of a quorum. Present at the meeting were Commission members Al Salzman, C.J. Boswell, Zach Parton, Victoria Smith, and Shane Hacker (representing Brownsburg Community School Corporation). Also in attendance were Town Manager Deb Cook and Economic Development Director Ethan Pierce.

During the initial part of the meeting, the Commission undertook the election of its officers. Al Salzman was nominated and elected as President, C.J. Boswell as Vice President, and Zach Parton as Secretary, each motion passing with a 4-0 vote.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Commission proceeded without citizen comments as there were none related to the agenda of the day. The approval of minutes from the November 7, 2023, meeting was discussed, particularly the protocol for new members voting on minutes for meetings they did not attend. Three approaches were outlined, allowing new members to vote, state for the record their review of the minutes before voting, or abstain if sufficient votes were present. The motion to approve the November meeting minutes was passed unanimously with a 4-0 vote.

In the new business segment, the Commission was informed about a scheduled joint meeting with the Town’s Boards/Commissions and the Town Council on Wednesday, February 21, at 6:00 PM. The purpose of this meeting is to share updates, discuss collaborative efforts, and facilitate introductions among the members. Additionally, new members were informed about available one-on-one Board/Commission training, with returning members encouraged to request refresher sessions as needed.

Shane Hacker provided an update on behalf of the Brownsburg Community School Corporation, mentioning his and Dr. Kat Jessup's roles as acting co-superintendents and expressing optimism about the direction in which things were heading.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn by Mr. Boswell, seconded by Ms. Smith, passing with a 4-0 vote. The meeting was adjourned at 5:40 PM.
