(Town Council Meeting - March 28, 2024)

The Brownsburg Town Council meeting began with a moment of silence and the Pledge of Allegiance. Below is a summary of the meeting:

  • Attendance and Acknowledgements:

    • All five members of the Brownsburg Town Council were in attendance, except for Mr. Lacey.

    • A tribute was paid to Trishilla Lemon-Jur, the town's longtime attorney and friend, who recently passed away.

  • Citizen Comments:

    • There were no citizen comments related to the agenda for the meeting held on March 28, 2024.

  • Proclamations:

    • National Vietnam Veterans Day was proclaimed, recognizing the service and sacrifices of Vietnam veterans and their families from November 1, 1955, to May 15, 1975.

  • Consent Items:

    • Approval of the March 14, 2024, meeting minutes and total claims and payroll amounting to $2,000,978.27.

  • Reports from Commissions and Boards:

    • The Police Department reported on the recruitment process for four additional officers, two of whom positions remain vacant. There was also mention of preparations for an upcoming eclipse on April 8th, with a plan to manage the expected influx of visitors.

    • The Fire Territory Report highlighted readiness for potential accidents due to increased town population during the eclipse, including additional emergency services and coordination with county Emergency Management Agency (EMA).

    • The Water Department noted improvements, including painted hydrants and ongoing efforts in water conservation. Challenges with water well drilling were discussed.

  • Parks and Recreation Updates:

    • Upcoming community cleanup event and stormwater program initiatives were mentioned.

    • Details about the "Race to the Eclipse" event on April 8th were shared, including a 5K run/walk, bicycle ride, and other preparations for the anticipated 5,000 attendees.

    • Progress on the splash pad project was updated, with design phases moving forward but acknowledgment that the splash pad may be unavailable for the current season.

  • Ordinances and Resolutions:

    • Discussion on the second reading of an ordinance for the annexation of real estate in the town, aimed at industrial use and development, including a favorable recommendation from the Advisory Plan Commission (APC).

    • A resolution for additional appropriations, primarily for vehicles and a pump truck for the fire department, was approved.

    • Public hearings for the annexation ordinance and fiscal plan related to the annexation were conducted with discussions on zoning and the impact on the town's infrastructure and services.

Calling all bird lovers and nature enthusiasts!

Join us April 13 at 8 AM for an adventurous morning walk at Arbuckle Acres Park - binoculars in hand! Explore the outdoors and spot different types of birds along the way. This program is free and open to all ages! Meet at Arbuckle Acres Park, Shelter 6.

The Street Department will provide curbside limb collection from Monday, May 6, through Friday, May 31 (depending on neighborhood schedule).

Residents can leave small branches, and limbs should be placed behind the curb edge by 6 AM on the week of pickup. Limb piles are limited to 8 ft. long by six ft. wide by four ft. tall. Oversize loads, including more than one pile of limbs, will not be picked up.

This program is for tree material; no lumber, root balls or firewood.
