BHS Students Lead Diabetes Awareness Effort Through DECA Project

A team of Brownsburg High School students is making a difference through a DECA project aimed at increasing diabetes awareness and education throughout the community.

Motivated by personal family connections to diabetes, the students launched an initiative focused on helping people better understand the disease, correcting common misconceptions, and connecting families with valuable resources. Their outreach efforts have included placing diabetes emergency awareness posters around Brownsburg High School, hosting educational activities at local events, and sharing resources with community members.

One of the group's biggest accomplishments so far was organizing a diabetes information night at the high school. The event featured six speakers and attracted 38 attendees who learned about diabetes management, prevention, and real-life experiences from individuals affected by the condition.

The students are now preparing for their next major event, Walk Beyond Diabetes, which will take place on November 14 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Canes Midwest Sports Complex. The community-focused event will feature a family-friendly walk, educational booths, games, and interactive activities designed to bring people together while promoting diabetes awareness.

Through their efforts, the student-led team hopes to continue educating the community and encouraging conversations that help people better understand the impact of diabetes on individuals and families.

Brownsburg Nearing Historic Milestone in Indiana Football

The Brownsburg Bulldogs, two-time defending Class 6A state champions, entered their sectional championship matchup with a 29-game winning streak and a chance to become just the 21st program in Indiana high school football history to reach 30 consecutive victories, which will tie the existing Brownsburg record set from 1983-86.

Brownsburg's current run began after a regular-season loss to Hamilton Southeastern in 2024. The Bulldogs closed that season with five straight wins to capture their first state title since 1985, followed by an undefeated championship season and another dominant regular season.

While the streak is impressive, Indiana's all-time record remains far away. Bloomington/Bloomington South holds the state mark with 60 consecutive wins from 1967 to 1973.
